Description
Sonthastra (from “sonth”, dry ginger) is the natural-farming answer to fungal pressure. It is traditionally sprayed to help crops resist problems like leaf spots, blights and mildews, especially in humid weather.
We don’t sell Sonthastra. It has to be used within hours of preparing, so it only makes sense to prepare it on your own farm — at almost no cost. To learn it with us, request a farm visit.
Ingredients (for 1 acre)
| Dry ginger (sonth) powder | 200 g |
| Water, for boiling the ginger | 2 litres |
| Milk (desi cow) | 5 litres |
| Water, for the final mix | 200 litres |
How to prepare
- Boil the dry ginger powder in 2 litres of water until it reduces to about 1 litre; let it cool.
- Separately, boil the milk, let it cool and remove the cream layer.
- Pour both into 200 litres of water, stir well and filter.
How to use
- Spray on 1 acre within about 2 hours of mixing.
- Traditionally used as a preventive spray every 15–20 days in humid spells, or at the first sign of fungal spots.
Storage & shelf life
Does not store — prepare fresh each time.
Good practice
- Spray in the evening; cover both sides of leaves.
- Remove and destroy badly affected leaves before spraying.
- Test on a few plants first.
Shared as traditional natural-farming knowledge. This is not a registered fungicide, and no specific level of disease control is promised. Results vary with disease, crop, climate and preparation.
