Description
Neemastra is the gentlest of the natural-farming protection sprays and usually the first one farmers reach for. It is traditionally used as a preventive spray against sucking pests such as aphids, jassids and whitefly, and against small caterpillars, before pest pressure builds up.
We don’t sell Neemastra. Neem grows almost everywhere in our region; we recommend preparing it on your farm at almost no cost. If you’d like to learn it in person, request a farm visit.
Ingredients (for 1 acre)
| Water | 100 litres |
| Desi cow urine | 5 litres |
| Desi cow dung | 1 kg |
| Neem leaves and thin twigs, crushed to a pulp | 5 kg |
How to prepare
- Crush or pound the neem leaves and twigs to a coarse pulp.
- Put everything into a drum in the shade and mix well.
- Cover with a jute sack and leave to ferment for 24–48 hours, stirring clockwise twice a day.
- Filter through a fine cloth before use.
How to use
- Spray the filtered liquid on 1 acre, as a preventive spray, covering the undersides of leaves.
- Repeat every 10–15 days while pest pressure is present.
Storage & shelf life
Traditionally kept up to about 6 months in a covered container in the shade, though fresher is better.
Good practice & safety
- Spray early morning or evening; avoid spraying at flowering hours when pollinators are active.
- Wear gloves and wash hands after handling.
- Test on a few plants first and watch for leaf scorch.
