Description
Bijamrit is a seed-coating liquid used before sowing, and as a quick dip for seedling roots and cuttings before transplanting. In natural farming it is traditionally used to protect the young seed from soil- and seed-borne problems and give germination a good start.
We don’t sell Bijamrit. It is made the night before you sow, from things already on your farm. We recommend preparing it yourself at almost no cost — and if you’d like to learn it in person, request a farm visit.
Ingredients (treats about 100 kg of seed)
| Water | 20 litres |
| Desi cow dung | 5 kg |
| Desi cow urine | 5 litres |
| Lime (chuna) | 50 g |
| Live soil from your farm bund | 1 handful |
How to prepare
- Tie the dung in a cloth and hang it in the 20 litres of water for about 12 hours (overnight).
- Squeeze the cloth bundle into the water a few times so the dung extract comes out; remove it.
- Dissolve the lime in about 1 litre of water separately and add it.
- Add the cow urine and the handful of soil and stir well.
- Leave overnight; use the next day.
How to use
- Seeds: sprinkle or gently coat the seeds with Bijamrit, mix by hand, then dry in the shade before sowing.
- Hard-coated tree seeds (many of our forestry and fruit seeds): a short soak can be used alongside the seed’s own pre-treatment.
- Seedlings & cuttings: dip the roots briefly just before transplanting.
Storage & shelf life
Best used within 24–48 hours of preparation.
Good practice
- Don’t soak small or delicate seeds for long — a light coating is enough.
- Dry treated seed in shade, not sun.
- Test on a small quantity of seed first.
